The Situation
Our client, a global manufacturer of specialty chemicals, planned to implement SAP to all global business units and plant facilities utilizing in-house employees to serve as SAP end-user trainers within their assigned business unit. The in-house employees selected were key business process specialists but did not have the skill set or experience of a classroom or on-the-job-trainer. The Solution
Realizing the need for help in providing their prospective in-house trainers with skills to effectively train their employees, our client searched for a training firm to provide a customized train-the-trainer program which focused on the soft skill aspect of being a trainer along with the technical skill set required to prepare and deliver SAP training. After consulting with a number of training suppliers, our client selected Total Training Solutions to design and implement a customized certification Train-the-Trainer program. The program incorporated a skill-based certification assessment for evaluation of each trainee’s platform skills. As a component of the assessment, videotaping of demonstrated facilitation skills was used to evaluate the application of the skills taught during the certification training session. This certification was implemented to future SAP trainers in the United States and Europe. To date, over 400 employees have been certified as SAP End-User Trainers. Total Training Solutions coordinated the efforts to have all course materials translated to the following languages: German, Italian, and Spanish. The course was facilitated in its native language by a Total Training Solutions training facilitator in the following countries: Germany, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Belgium, and the United States.
The Success
The SAP Train-the-Trainer course, developed and delivered by Total Training Solutions, enable our client to establish a training support team strategically located throughout their global facilities to support the end-user SAP training. Over 4,000 end-users have been successfully trained by this core group of certified SAP trainers. This team of trainers is easily accessible within their global locations to provide ongoing support to their functional area of expertise. They not only succeeded as classroom instructors, but also as on-the-job trainers as a result of the training received in the customized Train-the-Trainer course.
